FU MANCHU Working On New Material
May 14, 2003FU MANCHU drummer Scott Reeder has posted the following message to the band's official web site:
"The band has been working the past two and half weeks doing some pre-production on new songs with the man behind the sonic assault of our live album, Mr. Brian J. Dobbs. He is a veteran of the mix desk wars with various guilty parties such as VOIVOD, DAVID LEE ROTH, MÖTLEY CRÜE, METALLICA, MANMADEGOD, LIFE OF AGONY, THE CULT and so on. He has been brave (or crazy) enough to sit in a small smelly room with us and work out the kinks in some tunes that we feel are almost ready enough to be committed to tape. We planned to go into the studio this week, but yours truly was laid up with spring fever and although almost recovered, others have come down with this ailment and it looks like next week we will be doing some studio time instead.
"Right after this we will dive headlong into rehearsal for the tour, which starts the end of May and takes us up the golden coast of our home state and then to the far away lands across the Atlantic for June. The live record comes out in Europe at the top of June and we are all very excited (Bob especially) to be going back on the road. We will be playing a handful of these new tunes during the course of this trek. Keep a keen ear, as these will be the songs you won't recognize, but they will make you shake your asses an jump up and down and into each other.
"We plan to play some new (for us) covers, get sweaty, drink whiskey break shit and lay waste to as many of you as possible. Sounds like a fun plan for the summer. We hope to repeat all this across North America when the live record comes out in July with some shows in selected venues with no decibel limits.
"A quick note on the live album. I just finished watching the ultimate albums documentary on VH1 about 'Kiss Alive' and how there was a suitable amount of overdubbing and re-singing of parts. I think you will all agree that is not a big surprise and that said, it takes nothing away from the fact that 'Kiss Alive' is a great listening experience to this day and a true representation of an arena spectacle. We recorded many shows on the last tour and had to pair them down to about 5 of the best and we left the bad with the good. You will hear Scott's voice going raw, me dropping sticks, Bob screaming… and Brad.. well, he doesnt really screw up. The point is, this is the LIVE experience when you see FU MANCHU and the energy is the thing. So get ready to scream with the maddening crowds...cause we are coming warts and all. Are you ready?"
FU MANCHU's forthcoming double live album, "Go For It…Live!" , is due on June 2 in Europe and July 22 in the U.S. through SPV/Steamhammer Records.
"Go For It…Live!" was recorded on the U.S. and European legs of the "California Crossing" tour in 2002.
